Chapter 19: The Idea of Raising Spirit Beasts
"Decompose!"
A flash of golden light, and another demon beast corpse was decomposed.
Fang Yuan obtained another batch of materials — a cyan light orb and a red light orb.
He acted again, decomposing the Demon Power Orb into a Spiritual Power Orb, then swallowed and absorbed it.
The Spiritual Power within his body rose by another fraction.
He then pressed his finger onto the cyan light orb.
[Item]: Wind-Treading Innate Talent
[Grade]: Yellow Grade, Lower Tier
[Effect]: Allows the user to ride the wind, increasing movement speed
This was the innate talent of a Flash Shadow Rabbit — it could accelerate movement and leaping. This type of demon beast was incredibly fast and difficult to hunt, but this one had been raised in captivity and had nowhere to escape.
"What a great talent!"
Fang Yuan absorbed it immediately.
Before long, he felt a distinct awareness of wind-attribute Spiritual Energy between heaven and earth. Acting on instinct alone, he gave it a try.
The Spiritual Power within him circulated once through a special Meridians pathway, and the Spiritual Energy of heaven and earth around him surged toward him. It felt as though the wind rose beneath his feet — his body darted swiftly around the room, leaving afterimages in his wake.
"This feels almost like the Body Lightening Technique, except far more powerful!"
Fang Yuan was surprised.
He observed the Meridians circulation pattern and found it not too different from the Body Lightening Technique — just with a few additional variations.
The key was that this instinctive application required no hand seals to activate. It didn't even need to draw on his Spiritual Sense — the Technique fired instantly!
This was essentially equivalent to having cultivated the Body Lightening Technique to the Completion Stage!
Even more importantly, his instinctive ability to sense and absorb wind-attribute Spiritual Energy was equivalent to possessing a lower-grade Wind Spiritual Root.
Fang Yuan sat cross-legged and began absorbing Spiritual Energy.
Sure enough, he sensed the wind-attribute Spiritual Energy between heaven and earth flowing into his Cloud Qi Art Spiritual Power as well.
What surprised him was that with the addition of the wind attribute, his cloud-shaped Spiritual Power became even more graceful and swift.
He felt that his understanding of Cloud Momentum had inexplicably deepened as well!
"Wind and clouds naturally accompany each other — that is the way of heaven and earth. It stands to reason that after incorporating wind-attribute Spiritual Energy, the Cloud Qi Art's Spiritual Power would be strengthened."
With the addition of both wind and water attributes, the quality of the Cloud Qi Art's Spiritual Power rose by another twenty percent!
Fang Yuan couldn't help but sigh at how the Dao follows nature.
He then decomposed the Flash Shadow Rabbit's bloodline, obtaining a Flash Shadow Rabbit Blood Core and a mass of Bloodline Power.
After refining the Bloodline Power, he could feel that both his Gold-Devouring Innate Talent and his Wind-Treading Innate Talent had improved somewhat.
But the Wind-Treading Innate Talent improved more noticeably.
Fang Yuan exhaled lightly and took out another demon beast corpse.
This was the body of a Mid Qi Refining Stage Blazing Demon Wolf. Blazing Demon Wolves could breathe fire and were an extremely aggressive type of demon beast that also lived in packs.
If you encountered one in the wild, you'd better run — a whole pack breathing fire together, who at the same cultivation level could withstand that?
"Decompose!"
The Blazing Demon Wolf's corpse instantly split into several portions.
His gaze locked onto the Demon Power Orb, and he instantly pressed his finger to decompose it!
Golden light flashed again, and a massive Spiritual Power Orb appeared before him.
Fang Yuan swallowed it whole and refined it into his own Spiritual Power in moments.
The amount of Spiritual Power this time was quite considerable — equivalent to the Spiritual Power of fifty Supreme Qi-Nurturing Pills.
The Spiritual Power within his body had even recovered to twenty percent of his Dantian's original capacity — a cause for celebration.
He then pressed his finger onto the talent.
[Item]: Fire-Breathing Innate Talent
[Grade]: Yellow Grade, Middle Tier
[Effect]: Allows the user to release flames, absorb flames, and increases fire resistance
Fang Yuan absorbed it.
He then decomposed the bloodline and absorbed a denser mass of Bloodline Power.
His physical body immediately showed immediate improvement — his physical strength surged by a significant margin.
All three newly acquired talents improved to some degree.
At this point, all three demon beast corpses had been fully decomposed, yielding a rich harvest.
Having finished the decomposition, he came to a realization: he absolutely needed to start raising some spirit beasts.
Fang Yuan walked out of his Cave Dwelling and headed to the Treasure Hall to contribute the demon beast materials.
He started with the Black Scale Rat materials.
By the time his Contribution Points reached 400, he still had more than half of the demon beast meat left.
After continuing to exchange, he earned an extra 40 Contribution Points.
If sold at market price, that would be a full 550 Spirit Stones — a net profit of 150 Spirit Stones!
Of course, selling demon beast materials also involved labor costs and losses, so a net profit of 100 Spirit Stones was no problem.
"There really is a small surplus!"
Fang Yuan felt this was worth pursuing.
He continued selling the demon beast materials from the second corpse, but kept some of the demon beast meat.
He received 400 Contribution Points — breaking even.
Finally, he sold off the Blazing Demon Wolf's materials, totaling 2,600 Contribution Points sold, earning another 400 Contribution Points.
"The profit isn't that much though!"
Fang Yuan shook his head. Anyone else would have been thoroughly satisfied.
But he was both an Alchemist and an Artifact Refiner — a single mid-grade Magic Artifact was worth two thousand Spirit Stones. Why bother with all this effort?
As long as it broke even, he was content.
Fang Yuan left the Treasure Hall and made his way to Zhanchun Peak.
"Junior Brother, not enough demon corpses yet?" the Senior Brother who sold demon beast meat said with a grin.
"No, I want to raise some spirit beasts. I was wondering if I could adopt some here," Fang Yuan said with a smile.
The Senior Brother understood at once. "Raising spirit beasts! That's simple enough. We have disciples here who can help set up a spirit beast master-servant contract. Wait — you said some?"
"That's right, I want to raise quite a few — for the company!" Fang Yuan said with a laugh.
The Senior Brother gave him a strange look. "Spirit beasts aren't easy to raise. Senior Brother advises you to keep it to just one. Otherwise… heh heh, I can buy them back at a good price when the time comes."
Fang Yuan tugged at the corner of his mouth and said, "I'm an Artifact Refiner and an Alchemist — raising a few spirit beasts is no problem for me!"
The Senior Brother was genuinely surprised this time. "That impressive? No wonder you wanted whole corpses!"
He thought for a moment and said, "Junior Brother, if you want spirit beasts, that's absolutely no problem. I'll take you to sign the contracts."
He immediately set down the corpse he had been decomposing, left the other disciples to handle things, and led Fang Yuan off toward another area.
Fang Yuan quickly followed.
Before long, the two arrived at the Beast Nursery.
From outside, one could already see quite a few young spirit beast cubs inside.
They all appeared to be common varieties, however.
The Senior Brother had sharp eyes and said with a smile, "Junior Brother, Zhanchun Peak isn't one of those Beast Tamer sects — our spirit beast varieties are a bit limited. If you want rare and precious ones, you can go to the Market District outside the sect. But if you just want some to raise, what we have here is more than enough."
"That's fine — I just want some ordinary ones!" Fang Yuan nodded.
"Then there's no problem at all!"
The Senior Brother led Fang Yuan into the Beast Nursery.
"Lao Zheng, someone here to buy spirit beast cubs!"
The Senior Brother called out into the nursery.
Shortly after, a cultivator walked out. He glanced at the Senior Brother in surprise, then looked toward Fang Yuan. "Junior Brother, what kind of spirit beast cubs are you looking for? Feel free to have a look around."
Fang Yuan asked, "How many varieties of spirit beast cubs do you have here?"
"Ah, well — I have twelve varieties of spirit beast cubs in total."
Fang Yuan nodded. "Then I'll take one of each."
